Ice Skating Instructors

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the Program Supervisor or Head Pro the successful candidate will be responsible for running group ice skating classes for participants ages 3 to adult as developed by the Recreation Division to meet the needs of participants and ensure adequate safety while teaching.
  • Attend and participate in trainings and meetings as scheduled
  • Plan and deliver skating lessons based on the program outline supplied.
  • Effectively and in a timely manner communicate any issues/information that could impact the quality and safe delivery of the program to your direct supervisor
  • Prepare equipment at the start of each program and clean up and store equipment properly at the end of each program
  • Report all accidents/incidents to their immediate Supervisor within 24 hours.
  • Maintain class records as required
  • Evaluate skating participants and complete progress cards when required
  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery when instruction involves participants from the ages of 6 to 12 years of age
  • Perform various other duties as assigned.
  • Read, understand and abide by all of the City’s and Divisional Standards, Corporate Policies and Procedures, including Human Resources policies respecting Employee Conduct, Health and Safety and Freedom of Information.

JOB SPECIFICAIONS:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Skate Canada certification: Completed Senior Bronze Free skate and/ or Silver skills and/or Senior Bronze dances.
  • Valid Emergency First Aid / CPR B certification that is 565 approved (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross Society, St. John’s Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol)
  • PHCD (Principles of Healthy Child Development) or High Five Sport certification.
  • Strong skills in verbal and written communication, leadership, customer service, organization and planning.
  • Ability to interact with a diversity of patrons/parents and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Ability to adjust coaching techniques based on the strength and weaknesses of participants.
  • Must like working with children and adults.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to skate at the level required for instruction
  • Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Criminal Records Search that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.

 

Hours of Work: Evenings & Weekends

Hourly Rate: $21.04 - $23.03

Employment Period Begins: January 2017
