PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Building Plan Examination, the successful candidate will perform the following functions:

  • Review permit applications and related documents to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other applicable laws, by-laws and regulations
  • Process applications for building permits, including the examination of drawings and submitted data for acceptability and conformity with the Ontario Building Code
  • Respond to enquiries from homeowners, builders, architects, engineers, department staff and the general public regarding interpretation of the Ontario Building Code and/or other applicable law pursuant to building construction
  • Prepare information for files and reports in matters relative to this section
  • Liaise as required with other sections, divisions, departments and external agencies
  • Ensure that duties are carried out in a manner consistent with established policies and technical information for reports, correspondence and other communications
  • Ensure that technical expertise remains current
  • Participate in Building Code seminars and training courses as required
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Architectural/Civil Engineering Technologist and/or a post-secondary degree/diploma in a related discipline
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in the building design or construction field, municipal experience is a definite asset
  • Must be qualified or be working towards successfully completing the examination program in accordance with Division C-Part 3 Section 3.5- 2006 Building Code
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the requirements of the Building Code Act, the Ontario Building Code, and any other applicable law as they apply to all buildings in general, and more specifically, to architectural and structural systems
  • Must be proficient in reading and interpretation of drawings, specifications and other technical documents 
  • Personal computer literacy is required, experience with reviewing electronic plans is an asset
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills; and, the ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Designation or eligible for designation as a Certified Building Code Official is desirable

 

 

Hours of Work: 35 hour per week

Salary: $67,420 - $89,897

Closing Date: November 29,2017
