Job Description

Help us tell the story of the 2016 Census and what it means to the development of the City of Mississauga. Use your creativity to reimagine how we analyze and report on the Census. Use your GIS, ESRI Story Map skills, and Adobe CC skills to create a meaningful visual experience that engages our public.


Contract, Up to 1 year

The Information Planning Research Unit (a section of the Policy Planning Division) manages data that contains urban planning related reports, newsletters, brochures and open data. This includes: population, demographics, census, development monitoring/activity, growth forecasts, housing, employment, office, land use, vacant employment lands, and the environment.   • Under the direction of the Manager of Information Planning, the successful candidate will provide primary and secondary data to support departmental reports and projects by maintaining various databases, resolve data and database issues, maintain and monitor various data sources to track development conditions in and around Mississauga
  • Assist in the administration of the annual Employment Survey
  • Assist with the preparation of City Growth Forecasts
  • Prepare presentation material and information brochures / layout / infographics
  • Maintain the section’s open data web page as well as maintain the social media properties
  • Analyse Census data
  • Co-ordinate GIS requests
  • Provide i!nformation for public and private interests by receiving and responding to data requests
  • Other related duties as assigned



  • Degree in Geography, Urban Planning, or related discipline preferably with a GIS/database management focus along with 3 years related experience
  • Research and analytical skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, ArcView (or GeoMedia), and Google Earth are required, and must be willing to learn new types of software on a regular basis
  • Familiarity with database design and management, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign are a definite asset; previous graphic design experience and portfolio is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Mississauga’s municipal planning and property creation process, development application tracking software; as well as knowledge of the City and open data are a definite asset
  • Valid Driver’s License and use of a personal vehicle are essential

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Hourly Rate: $32.56 - $43.41 (Based on Grade D $59,253 - $79,005)
