Employment Period: Monday, May 7, 2018 to Friday, August 31st, 2018 Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm and may be required to work weekends, as required.



Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and monitoring of past restoration/naturalization sites throughout the City’s parks and natural areas
  • Support City staff to manage volunteers on restoration and tree planting projects in cooperation with partner groups, ensuring the health and safety of the participants
  • Aid in the administration of various city wide invasive species management projects
  • Assist with the administration of various Forestry related contracts
  • Removal of stakes and tree guards from trees off of warranty
  • Support and assist with Warranty Tree  inspections and administration
  • Installation of Water Bags on City owned trees
  • Watering of young trees in City owned Parklands
  • Data collection and entry
  • Assist with tree preservation issues from a development perspective
  • Support staff to manage nuisance weeds & tall grass bylaw
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Specifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution as a full time student AND accepted into a full-time post-secondary institution in September or January 2017 (proof will be required at the time of interview)
  • Preference will be given to those that have a Natural Resource or Forestry background or are currently enrolled in a Natural Resource or Forestry specific program that deals with knowledge and identification of trees
  • Ability to perform strenuous tasks outdoors, with the potential for rough terrain and adverse weather conditions
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • You will be required to work some evenings and weekends
  • Must hold a valid Emergency First Aid certification 
  • Employment offer is conditional upon providing a Criminal Record Search, at your own expense, that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga
  • Must hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class G minimum with a driving record that meets City standards (proof will be required at time of interview)
  • Must possess Green Patch CSA approved safety boots, 6”-8” to cover ankle made of suede or leather material


 Physical Demands:

  • Working outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions
  • Requires bending, lifting heavy equipment and objects, walking, pushing, sitting, standing and repetitive motion





Salary: $13.53- $15.20
