    Primary Responsibilities:

    Under the general direction of the Surveys and Inspections Supervisor, the incumbent:

    • Performs various types of construction layout and data collection measurements for payments;
    • Collects field notes and records information on a daily basis to maintain construction log book for payment purposes;
    • Performs other related duties as may be assigned, which may include temporary reassignment to the Works Operations Section during the winter period to assist in winter maintenance activities.

     

    Job Specifications:

    • Successful completion of a Civil Engineering, or Survey Engineering Technology Program from College or University.
    • C. Tech, C.E.T or SURV designation is preferred.
    • Pervious experience in Municipal Services Construction is an asset.
    • Previous experience in Total Stations or related survey equipment, and electronic field books as they relate to either construction or land survey data collection is an asset.
    • Ability to conduct survey calculations to understand level readings is crucial.
    • Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office: Word, Excel.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to create effective solutions to problems.
    • Good time management and organizational skills to be able to adapt to varying and tight deadlines.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills along with strong cusgtomer service and conflict resolution skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and sound decisions.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written, with previous experience in writing reports and maintaining logs/diaries.
    • Must hold a valid Class "G" Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City. A driver's abstract will be required to verify a driving record in good standing.

    Physical Demands:

    • Exposure to variety of weather conditions, noise, vibration, and unpleasent smells, etc.
    • Exposure to concrete, asphalt, dust, flying particles, etc.
    • Requires lifting, pulling, and carrying of heavy equipment and objects
    • Requires use of sledge hammers and hammers

    CSA Green Patch Safety boots are required.

     

    Note:  This is a contract up to 8 months

    Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm. This position may require seasonal overtime and weekends.

    Salary: $25.93/hr
