Job Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate must be knowledgeable and familiar with the playing rules of the specified sport required; (indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, ice hockey, flag football and dodgeball) have a minimum of 2 years officiating or adult league experience, strong communication, organizational and supervision skills. This candidate will hold a valid Emergency First Aid / CPR “B” certification (Lifesaving Society /Canadian Red Cross Society / St. John’s Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol). The candidate must be able to work flexible hours to ensure supervision and continuity of the league, Referee’s certification or coaching certification in the specific sport is an asset. Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Criminal Records Search, Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.


Job Rquirements:

Under the direction of the Program Supervisor the successful candidate will be responsible to assist in the delivery and operations of a comprehensive sport league program as developed by Recreation Department. The League Convenor is responsible for the training, supervision and scheduling of officiating staff and to ensure adequate safety of participants and staff while facilitating league games.


  • To support the objectives and philosophies of the league programs as established by the Recreation Division through quality customer and staff relations.
  • To ensure supervision of players and provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants by adhering to department safety standards and assisting with emergency procedures as required
  • To adhere to entrance / exit guidelines and validate use of services (registration, attendance, rosters,  waivers).
  • To conduct safety checks of program equipment and allocated facilities. Cleaned up and store equipment properly after use.
  • To form equitable and balanced teams/divisions for league play.
  • To schedule league games including playoff and inform game officials.
  • To assist in the planning and training of game officials and scorekeepers.
  • To provide oversight and act as a resource to game officials and scorekeepers. (scheduling, attendance, understanding and enforcement of league rules, assist in diffusing challenging situations outside of the playing surface, provide feedback to program supervisor on performance.)
  • To complete all related administrative tasks accurately and on time.
  • To provide excellent customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to participants and staff.
  • To communicate with team captains or team players regarding league policies, rules and schedules.
  • To effectively and in a timely manner communicate any issues/ information that could impact the quality and safe delivery of the program to the MOD or direct supervisor.
  • To communicate regularly with Facility Operation Staff as it pertains to set-up requirements and the use of the facility. Report any concerns/damage to Supervisor immediately.
  • To attend and participate in all mandatory trainings and staff meetings as scheduled
  • To complete all mandatory online, e- learning training modules.
  • To read, understand and abide by all City Divisional Standards, Corporate Policies and Procedures, including Human Resources policies Respectful Employee Conduct, Health and Safety and Freedom of Information.
  • To perform other related duties as assigned.




The duties and responsibilities of the League Convenor are reflected in the hourly rate of pay as outlined on the part - time rate schedule.


Staff will be paid on an hourly basis for attending required training or meetings at a Training / Meeting rate of pay.


Staff will receive 4% vacation pay of total wages upon termination of employment or on or around the last pay of the year.


Advancement to job rate is dependent on working a minimum of 6 months consecutively or a minimum of 280 hours and the ability to perform the job at a satisfactory level. Successful candidates must also demonstrate ongoing professional development, involvement in unit specific activities or promotions, attend staff meetings / trainings and receive a “meeting expectations” on a performance review.




Salary: $19.33-$20.39
