Job Description

Are you passionate about the cycling?  Do you want to help promote cycling and motivate more Mississauga residents to ride their bikes, more often?

 

 

The Active Transportation Division is looking for two summer students to help deliver our new Bike Ambassador outreach program. As part of the Bike Ambassador outreach team you will execute a marketing and education campaign focused at getting more residents interested in cycling. You will coordinate cycling events and attend events across the city to interact with residents and encourage them to start cycling.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Manager, Active Transportation, with functional guidance from the Marketing & Education Coordinator, the successful candidate(s) will:

Role 1 – Promotion Ambassador 

  • Represent the City of Mississauga at events throughout Mississauga to engage residents in a conversation about cycling and provide them with available city resources and motivate them to start cycling.
  • Collect data, survey responses and feedback from events and prepare event report summaries.
  • Track and maintain an inventory of display and promotional materials.
  • Assist with the creation of new outreach program materials as required.
  • Support event ambassador with planning and execution of events including bike fests, community rides and Tour de Mississauga.
  • Provide general administration support to the Active Transportation Team as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Role 2:  Event Ambassador

  • Plan and coordinate local cycling events including Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee community rides, Mississauga bike fests and Tour de Mississauga.
  • Assist with promotion and execution of various aspects of Active Transportation projects
  • Support promotion ambassador at events throughout Mississauga to engage residents in a conversation about cycling and provide them with available city resources and motivate them to start cycling.
  • Provide general administration support to the Active Transportation team as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Job Specifications:

These are temporary positions from May 7st, 2018 to August 31, 2018 

  • Currently enrolled in College or University program, returning to school full time in September 2018.
  • Demonstrated passion for active transportation and cycling.
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates that have previous, related experience in outreach and education as well as interest and/or experience in organizing events, communications, public relations, and marketing and sales.
  • Excellent communication skills (public speaking, presentations, writing) are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills are required.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, and also independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply excellent customer service skills with the public and City staff.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends, early mornings and evenings as required (up to 35 hours per week).
  • Some heavy lifting will be required (30-50lb work-related equipment).
  • Owning a bike and being able to ride up to 25 kilometres per day is preferred
  • Must have a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License, access to a vehicle, and an excellent driving record, with the ability to travel between various locations across the city (mileage will be reimbursed if travel is required within Mississauga).

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 35 hour per week (Weekend work may be requested)

Salary: $15.95 - $17.21 per hour
