Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate and Department Communications, the successful candidate will assist in the implementation of the 2018 Municipal Election communication strategy which includes developing and executing related issues management, media relations, social media and advertising plans both for online and print; as well as coordinate and execute approved special events and information programs related to the 2018 Municipal Election.



  • Assist and support the implementation of the 2018 Municipal Elections Communications Strategy; including developing:
    • issues management plans and messaging
    • pro-active media relations plans and approaches
    • engaging content and campaigns for the City's corporate social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
    • advertising bundles for key milestones for both online and print
  • Coordinate and assist with planning and executing approved special events and information programs for internal audiences as well as the public and external stakeholders
  • Research effective and innovative approaches and activities for promoting municipal election processes
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures and processes for the execution of Communication activities as they relate to the Municipal Election process
  • Bring innovative, creative ideas and approaches to the team/projects and look for opportunities to improve efficiency and streamline processes
  • Other duties as assigned




Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, media, journalism or related field plus a minimum of 3 years of related public relations/communications experience; demonstrated ability to research and write information materials including brochures, media releases, speaking notes and correspondence; experience in planning, organizing and implementing special events; experience and understanding of media and social media platforms and trends.

In addition, the following skills are required:

  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Experience and knowledge working with MS Office, databases, spreadsheets, presentation software, Content Management Systems (CMS), social media platforms
  • Proactive, flexible and collaborative approach to work
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work flexible work hours including weekends (as needed)

Experience in a corporate and/or government setting is preferred and bilingualism in French is an asset.





Note:  This is a contract position up to October 31, 2018

Hours of Work: 35 hour per week

Salary: $37.04 - $49.39  /hour
