    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Contract up to 2 years

     

    Reporting to the Manager of Planning Innovation the successful candidate will:

    • Participate in or lead special studies that advance the implementation of the Mississauga Housing Strategy – Making Room for the Middle - Action Plan.
    • Develop policy advice and documents to implement Provincial and Regional polices and plans pertaining to housing matters
    • Develop and conduct effective consultations with other professionals, the public and various interest groups
    • Support the development of strategic intelligence gathering, analyzing data, trends, monitor and report on housing metrics, stakeholder positions and activities as well as government and non-government initiatives
    • Provide professional planning advice, information and direction concerning City housing policies and procedures
    • Write reports, summaries, fact sheets, briefing notes, memoranda, web and other media content to communicate information about the housing strategy
    • Research, prepare and present reports on housing policy and operational matters  (e.g. Year End Report) to City Council and Committees of Council
    • Monitor the performance of internal plan reviewers, developers for compliance with housing actions and strategies
    • Accurately interpret regulations and all other government housing policy or program requirements
    • Represent the City Planning Strategies Division on inter-department and inter-agency projects
    • Testify before the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal
    • Must have ability to travel and have/provide own transportation and be comfortable working in multiple locations
    • Perform other related duties as may be assigned

     

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

    • ​A university degree in urban planning, urban geography, public administration or a related discipline with a minimum of three years in positions of increasing responsibility on policy planning matters
    • Membership or eligibility for membership in Ontario Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred
    • Knowledge of Provincial policies and plans
    • Highly developed creative thinking, problem solving, research, analytical, report writing, communication, organization and project management skills  are required/preferred
    • Knowledge of housing trends, conditions and forecasting, housing sector stakeholders and housing policies
    • Knowledge of land economics e.g. pro-forma analysis an asset
    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
    • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and achieve project objectives in a timely manner

     

     

    Note:  Approval pending for a permanent position in 2019.

    Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

    Hourly Rate: $42.80 - $57.06
